Topsham Food Festival

Topsham Food Festival
June 30th-July 1st, 2018
"Fire and Spice"

We are happy to announce that the 5th Nello’s Longest Table and Topsham Food Festival will take place over the weekend of June 30-July 1. The theme for the weekend will be “Fire and Spice”.

A "Fire and Spice” food festival will take place on Topsham Quay on Saturday June 30th which will comprise a farmers' market of artisan producers, street food stands, chef demos, and live music. Food and drink businesses around town are invited to be involved in any way, by offering special ‘fire and spice’ menus, or perhaps by taking part in a Food Trail, as we did two years ago.

Nello’s Longest Table will take place on Sunday July 1st. Once again some 350 tables will stretch edge-to-edge the length of Topsham Fore Street, around Topsham Quay, and down Ferry Road, past the Underway to the Passage Inn.

For those who haven’t yet experienced the magic of Nello’s Longest Table, it is such a simple and wonderful community happening. Tables are ‘purchased’ and everyone brings your own feasts of local and locally sourced food and drink, as well as your own chairs. Some might choose to follow the ‘fire and spice’ theme in choice of food, or perhaps fancy dress. Set-up on Sunday morning is a community effort that will hopefully go as smoothly and quickly as it has in previous years. A ‘table wave’ will start the proceedings off (usually at 5pm), and some 2000 of us will sit down all together at this one giant table to share and celebrate food, family, community and friendship: the important things in life. Afterwards, all hands to the deck again as tables are returned to designated areas, everyone takes away their rubbish, and by 10pm the town is just about back to normal.

Proceeds from the weekend go to projects in our local community, promoting Topsham food and drink, and to Force cancer charity.

Tables will go ‘on sale’ on St George’s Day, Monday April 23rd at 2pm in Route 2 Café. Please do not try to reserve your table earlier than this!

If you would like to be involved in this year’s activities, have new ideas to add to the weekend, and/or are available to help in any way, please let us know.

We hope to see you there!

Liz Hodges, Anna Bowen, Kim and Marc Millon
