Can you help with table set up? Please come to the Pebblebed Wine Cellar on Ferry Road at 11.15 for instructions on where to go. Please spread the word!

The 5th Nello’s Longest Table and Topsham Food Festival is taking place on Sunday July 1. The theme for this year is “Fire and Spice”.

This year some 390tables will stretch edge-to-edge the length of Topsham Fore Street, around Topsham Quay, and down Ferry Road, past the Underway to the Passage Inn.

For those who haven’t yet experienced the magic of Nello’s Longest Table, it is such a simple and wonderful community happening. Tables are ‘purchased’ and everyone brings your own feasts of local and locally sourced food and drink, as well as your own chairs. Some might choose to follow the ‘fire and spice’ theme in choice of food, or perhaps fancy dress.

Set-up on Sunday morning is a community effort that will hopefully go as smoothly and quickly as it has in previous years. Please come to the Pebblebed Wine Cellar at 11.15 if you are able to help.

Nello's Longest Table will begin, we suggest, with aperitivo starting from 4pm. Some 2000 of us will sit down all together at this one giant table to share and celebrate food, family, community and friendship: the important things in life.

At 5pm the proceedings will officially start off with the famous Topsham ‘table wave’: this year we are asking each table to raise your glasses to Geoff Bowen, a champion of Topsham who loved Nello's Longest Table, and who is much missed by our whole community.

Afterwards, all hands to the deck again as tables are returned to designated areas, everyone takes away their rubbish, and by 10pm the town is just about back to normal.

Proceeds from the weekend go to projects in our local community, promoting Topsham as a destination through Love Topsham, to Force cancer charity, and to the Brain Tumour Charity.

We look forward to seeing you. Let's hope the sun keeps shining!

Liz Hodges, Anna Bowen, Kim and Marc Millon
